Third Street Chai: Sugar Free Black Tea Latte Chai Liquid Concentrate
|
True to its word, here the sugar is left out of the mix. And nothing artificial is ever going to even get close to a Third Street product, so this is low on the sweetness scale. Third Street has tried to get what natural sweetness they could and drop the stronger flavors by favoring a different set of ingredients here including a mixture of Rooibos and black tea, plus honeybush, vanilla, stevia, etc. That has indeed smoothed it out and made a pleasant and interesting taste. If you are anti-sugar, this is a great option. And only 3 calories per cup! But don't expect to find your typical "sugar substitute" artificial sweetner here. (One thought for diabetics or others who have cut out sugar might be to add a teaspoonful of natural sweetener Xylitol instead.) link: http://www.xylitol.org/

Here is a chai that is really useful. It has no sugar so I use it to "cut" some of the other chais that I think are too sweet. This let's me enjoy a number of chais that would otherwise be too sweet for my taste.

This is a fabulous & delicious product. It is well balanced with spice & not overly sweet. I mix it with unsweetened almond milk & drink to begin my day. I hypothesize that the cinnamon in your mix attenuates my insulin levels because I have noticed that I don’t crave sweets anymore since I started imbibing this wonderful concoction.
Many, many thanks from me to whoever is responsible for the creation of this wonderful tea.

I was excited when I saw a Chai tea made with Stevia on your website. I've been using Stevia for awhile and love it. So, I bought a case of the tea. However, I was disappointed when I tasted your chai tea. It is extremely bitter and has a very small hint of Stevia. I have been trying to find something to mask the bitterness. I am not happy with the product at all.

"Lou Ann, please note that I rated it only a '1' for sweetness, the lowest rating we have. So if you expected sweet here, you would be disappointed. So you are correct in saying that Third Street went light on the Stevia. But a lack of sweetness certainly isn't 'bitter'. I would have to disagree strongly with you there. As far as sugar-free chai goes, this is a great, natural option (for those who want to avoid all artificial sweeteners). Still, if you prefer it sweeter, there is another option: Try adding a spoonful of Xylitol, a natural sugar substitute you can buy at most any health food store. It is commonly used in sugar free gum. It looks almost the same as sugar but has 1/2 the calories. The biggest difference between Xylitol and sugar is that Xylitol doesn't upset blood sugar levels the way sugar does, since it is absorbed much more slowly. And as a fully natural product, it doesn't have any of the risks inherent with artificial sweeteners."
